Whole school art exhibition
Artwork produced by learners from every year group in the school was on display for a two-day art exhibition. The exhibition was a wonderful celebration of creativity, showcasing an impressive collection of artwork that leaners have created over this academic year.
The display featured many projects undertaken by learners throughout the school and showed progression of techniques and development of themes and ideas. Learners used a variety of media from pastel to paint, pottery and pots to create some vivid pieces of art. They also took inspiration from famous artist of multiple genres from Van Gogh to Grayson Perry.
Here are some of the projects undertaken:
Primary classes created shiny artwork inspired by Anish Kapoor and used Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night painting to develop their skills in both paint and collage.
Year 7 leaners explored how artists draw the human body and face using correct proportions in their people and portraits topic. They also experimented with Matisse inspired shapes and created beautiful canvas landscapes.
Year 8 used clay to create Day of the Dead Sugar Skulls and also painted large scale close ups of flowers as painted by Georgia O’Keefe. They also took inspiration from Henri Rousseau to create their own jungle animal paintings.
Year 9 created abstract Cubism portraits with oil pastels which involved fracturing facial features using geometric shapes and using contrasting bold colours. They also learnt about Greek pottery and made their own pots. They also created some vibrant pumpkins as inspired by Yayoi Kusama.
Year 10 created some striking Pop Art inspired Food designs and decorated Identity pots inspired by Grayson Perry’s work. They first painted the surface of a pot template and then built up a collage of photographs, pictures, words and symbols that represented their own identity, interests and experiences. Every pot is unique and tells the personal story of its creator.
Year 11 GCSE coursework had previously been displayed for the Leavers celebration and learners from across the school had been able to enjoy the portfolios of the students on display.
Post-16 learners also had artwork on display and they too had created identity pots and animal canvas paintings.
Classes were encouraged to visit, enjoy their artwork and that of their friends. Families and visitors were also invited to drop in and view the vibrant display of pottery, paintings, 3D sculptures and lino prints, highlighting the talent, imagination and hard work of our young artists.
