Annual cultural programme starts with Three Men in a Boat
Year 11 learners at St Philip’s School enjoyed attending a live performance of “Three Men in a Boat” at The Rose Theatre, utilising the venue’s access scheme. They greatly enjoyed the production, full of slapstick humour and mentions of local places along the river including Kingston and Hampton Court Palace.
The school has built an ongoing relationship with the theatre; alongside learner visits, the school’s Head of Arts collaborates with the theatre to advise on inclusive workshop practices for young people with additional needs. Teachers also engage in professional networking events, and the school supports the theatre with their fundraising efforts.
This trip was the first in a full programme of cultural events which underpins St Philip’s commitment to ensuring every learner visits a theatre or attends a show performed in-house every year. This year’s opportunities include Christmas and Easter experiences at the King Centre, visits to Epsom Playhouse, the Polka Theatre, The Globe Theatre as well as Arts Week and the I Am Festival.
