The ‘Beech Hut’ is open!

Beech Hut is a business enterprise of the post-16 department led by Amanda Skidmore.

Students are running a restaurant, enabling them to practise customer service by welcoming customers in the room, taking their order, communicating the information back to the kitchen and fulfilling the request by serving the food at the table.

Due to Covid-19, the group had to think outside the box and adapt the way they ran the business. Therefore, they now do takeaways! Things have been running smoothly and they even gained more customers, definitely a success we are very proud of. Our students are developing their independence with each lesson, and we can see great improvements in their communications skills, discipline, following instructions and being proactive in the work environment. Post-16 is all about being independent and Beech Hut is a great environment for those learned skills to shine.

Students develop very high levels of positive behaviour and feel extremely safe. They are very considerate, very respectful and caring of others and highly positive about learning.
