Primary visit to the Synagogue

Pupils in Acorn and Berry class enjoyed a trip to Wimbledon Synagogue helping to bring their learning about Judaism in school RE lessons to life. As well as learning about the distinctive features of a synagogue, they  also discovered some key ideas about Judaism and the Jewish way of life.

The pupils enjoyed trying on prayer shawls and kippah, the small domed hats that are worn in synagogue.

They also were also intrigued to view the Torah, the most important document of Judaism that has been used by Jews through the ages. The Torah scrolls were taken out from the Ark and a portion was read aloud to our group.

We are grateful to the volunteers at the Synagogue who hosted our visit. It helped to extend and reinforce our understanding and knowledge of Judaism.
