Make some noise with Club SoDaDa

On Friday 14th March we were delighted to host a Club SoDaDa at St Philips, the culmination of a month of workshops linked to the I Am Festival.

Workshop leaders from SLiDE Dance, Moss Arts and Club Soda worked together to help pupils prepare for the Club SoDaDa through workshops on; MCing, shadow puppetry, dancing, music and movie making.  Some of the workshop leaders who joined us were adults with learning disabilities, great role models for our pupils.

At the Club SoDaDa students acted as comperes for the afternoon and introduced their fellow classmates who bravely took to the stage to showcase their talents. We had a dance tribute to Michael Jackson and an extract from the movie Shrek featuring Donkey and Shrek.

Shadow puppets were projected onto the screens, there was the opportunity to take part in arts and crafts or dress up and join in the dancing with music from DJ Joker. They also created their very own soundtrack with vocal and instrumental contributions mixed together using a loop pedal.

The grand finale of the afternoon was a catwalk when everyone got to show off their best moves and strike a pose.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the festival, bringing Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent young people together to empower, celebrate and explore their creativity.
