LifeLab Enterprise project is a huge success

Over the Spring term our year 10’s have been completing an incredibly exciting project with LifeLab. LifeLab is a fun and interactive course that has developed key transferable skills that employers look for when recruiting – technical, communication, critical thinking, multitasking, teamwork, creativity and leadership.

Our Year 10 students have taken part in 12 weekly 1.5-hour sessions co-ordinated by two highly experienced ladies, who have been working alongside our Steps to Transition teachers to deliver these highly beneficial sessions to our young people.

Pupils started the sessions by identifying the skills that they have developed in themselves through everything they do, both in and outside of school. They then selected job roles within the group based on those skills, such as: Operations Manager, Finance Manager, Sales Manager etc.

With support, pupils have learnt to work independently and as part of a team to develop and produce products and services, calculate their expenses, income and profit, create a brand and create promotional posters. They then presented their business plans to a panel of judges including representatives from their school and outside entrepreneurs before they sold the products they had made at a stall of their own creation at an Enterprise Fair, which we held last Friday.

They were guided step by step through business theory and processes using appropriate resources, exercises, quizzes, games and videos and throughout this process, they have gained confidence in their own skills and recognised the skills of others.

The market on Friday was electric! The buzz of the Sports Hall was amazing as we watched our young entrepreneurs sell the products they had worked so hard to design and bring to life. All teams sold out completely, and all made an excellent profit! Our young people have enjoyed this process immensely and have learned some transferable skills that they will be able to use in any of their future endeavours.
