Leading the way for Cultural Inclusion
On Friday 29th November teachers from St Philip’s joined colleagues from Carew Academy and St Dominic’s School in attending the Cultural Inclusion Conference at the Royal Albert Hall. The event was also attended by schools, cultural institutions, parents and freelance artists all interested in how the barriers to engagement in the arts can be removed for D/deaf, disabled and neurodiverse children and young people.
The day consisted of a variety of panel discussions with speakers including teachers, parents and arts institutions such as the Southbank Centre and the British Museum. A highlight of the day was the youth panel which featured Ruth, a sixth former at St Philip’s School.
The conference is organised by volunteers; Anita Kerwin-Nye (Executive Director at Youth Hotel Association), Lisha Rooney (parent, governor and artist) and Tom Underwood (Lead Teacher of the Arts at St Philip’s).
