I Am Festival 2025 at Tate Modern
Our pupils had an inspiring artistic journey at Tate Modern as part of this year’s I Am Festival 2025, engaging with the immersive exhibition of solid light by renowned artist Anthony McCall. Their experience also included the Sensory Space and Quiet Room, offering a rich exploration of art through different sensory interactions.
The visit began with a screening of Landscape for Fire (1973), a documentary by Anthony McCall, providing insight into his conceptual approach to art. Following this, the pupils stepped into an immersive installation where projected beams of light cut through the surrounding dust and smoke, transforming the space into a dynamic, interactive environment. Through movement and interaction, they explored storytelling in a non-verbal, performative manner, using their bodies to shape light and space.
After a short break, the pupils moved on to the Sensory Space, where they explored a variety of materials, textures, and forms by touch. This hands-on experience allowed them to connect with art in a way that felt natural and personal, sparking creativity.
To conclude the day, the group visited the Quiet Room—an inviting space designed for relaxation and reflection. Here, students had the opportunity to unwind, process their experiences, and share their thoughts on the day’s artistic journey.
The pupils left feeling inspired and excited, with plenty of ideas sparked by the day’s activities.
