Diwali Celebrations
To mark Diwali, Acorn and Berry class welcomed Mrs Malladi and Mr Maddulapalli, parents of a child in the Primary department at St Philip’s. Diwali is a 5-day festival of lights, celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains and symbolizes the victory of light over darkness or good over evil. Diwali means “row of lights,” and celebrations often involve lighting oil lamps called diyas and decorating with fireworks and other lights.
They shared with us how Diwali is celebrated in their part of India and the pupils were able to touch some different items, such as diva lamps, that are used to celebrate Diwali. We were also able to see how a sari is put on and try it on.
