Charlie’s Promise Workshop
Students from Years 10, 11 and Post 16 attended a workshop on knife crime on Monday 24th February. It was a really emotional session that the students engaged with really well and was run by Martin from Charlie’s Promise, a charity dedicated to helping the fight against knife crime in Surrey and across the UK. Martin, the Founder of the charity, spoke about his own experiences and many of our students stayed behind at the end of the session to offer their condolences to Martin while others were compelled to write some lovely letters to him.
Martin said “It was an incredibly moving morning at St Philips SEN school in Chessington today, where I delivered my talk to a room full of year 9, 10 and 11 pupils. These fantastic young people have their own challenges, but my goodness, they were so engaged and all stayed behind to tell me what they’d like to do to remember Charlie. What a great job the team does for these young people at this school. Charlie would have been proud of them.”
We have decided we will be doing some fundraising in Charlie’s honour.

Here is some of the feedback from our students:
“I really enjoyed listening to this it was really powerful and moving. Charlie would be so proud as well.” Andrew
“I was deeply touched by your explanation and am very sorry for your loss. I like how you turned you pain into a positive charity. Thank you for spreading awareness about knife crime.” Talmeez
“As I set down in the chair, I didn’t know what this was about until I heard about a crime scene and after hearing it was about your little boy I felt terrible and very upset for you because of how hard it was for you. The pictures you had of him from the night and the night before almost broke me and your whole story really got to me. Although it was sad it was nice hear about everything that happened, and I can tell you was brave up there talking about everything when it must have been hard. When the mini movie played I cried about 6 times but managed to pull myself together and keep watching and I’m glad I could do it. Thank you for sharing your story I will be looking up your TikTok account to follow and see more updates oof what happened have an amazing day and keep going.” Rose
“I wanted to say sorry for what happened to you again. No one deserves to have someone so young, so kind taken from this world by someone so evil so wrong. It was horrible and I just want to say sorry and thank you for coming and giving us the information to help us make smart choices and become better people smart and sensible and that we really appreciated everything that you gave to us to help us to be our friend.
Remember when I told you that when I make my book and gain the money and use it to sponsor your charity well that’s a promise I will never break. I will help you and show children the way you showed us how we can fight against the evil that is knife crime. I promise you that I will warn our future that I will help them make smart choices like you did to us.
So, I just wanted to say thank you and we appreciated everything and that I hope you come back to help us become good natured people you’ve done to us and that am sorry, and I want you to know – You’re doing great.” Daniel
