Can the Three Lions replicate the success of the St Philip’s School football teams?
With England kicking off their World Cup campaign this week, it’s a great time to share some amazing news regarding the football teams at St Philip’s.
The KS3 and KS4 teams competed in the Surrey Special Schools Sports Association (SSSSA) football tournament and both came away with the Plate.
The girls team won the Fulham FC Inclusive League. The results of 3 meetings and over 15 fixtures are added together to determine an overall winner which on this occasion was St Philips!
The boys KS4 team won the Fulham FC Inclusive League Premiership (top division). The results of 3 meetings and over 20 fixtures are added together to determine an overall winner which on this occasion was St Philips!
On the back of this success the girls were selected to represent Kingston in a London wide football tournament and they did the school and the Royal Borough of Kingston proud. They lost the semi final match by one goal but brushed themselves off and went on to finish 3rd overall by winning the 3rd/4th place play off.
Ms Brennan was very proud of the team and said “The girls were amazing! I was so excited and proud watching them play some amazing football. One thing I really enjoyed witnessing was them encouraging each other and communicating throughout each game.”
When asked what their favourite part was they said “slide tackles in the rain, winning most games and the medals at the end.”
Mr Walsh has had to buy a new trophy cabinet for his office!
