Burying our 2025 Time Capsule
On Thursday 18th December, St Philip’s buried their very own time capsule! The time capsule has been a work in progress for the past six months, beginning as a pupil idea in a Year 7 History lesson, and quickly growing into a way to celebrate our school’s 70th anniversary and the opening of the new Willow vocational block.
The time capsule is packed with lots of items and information, ranging from a Sainsburys receipt to demonstrate food prices, an iPad and a walkie-talkie, to the top films, songs, and books of the year. There’s packaging to demonstrate the kind of food we eat now, stationary, and uniform and toys kindly donated by our PTA. We also included photographs from around the school, a newspaper, and minutes from our most recent Student Council meeting.
Mrs Weir did lots of work with pupils in Year 7 History last academic year, where pupils made predictions for the future and wrote about what our lives are like now. Staff were invited to complete a questionnaire which included questions such as ‘What’s a teaching strategy or tool that makes a big difference for SEN learners in 2025?’, ‘What’s one thing you think will be completely different in schools by 2095?’ and ‘What’s something you think (or hope!) will never change about education?’.
One Year 8 pupil said, “It was sad to see it go underground, but I’m excited to see what people in the future think about our quality of living. We learned about things from the past in History that we think is disgusting and weird like peeing in a bucket, so maybe people in 70 years will look at our uniform or work or iPad and think that’s weird!”
