Badminton Club Champion

Many congratulations to Rathanan in Year 10 who has just been crowned Wimbledon Inclusive Club Champion in the sport of Badminton. He shared his recent success at Year 10  celebration assembly to mark the end of the academic year.

Rathanan’s first badminton win was in school competition with St Philip’s in January 2023 and his parents, noticing his interest in the sport, encouraged him to join Wimbledon Racquets Club where a coach and former champion, Toby Penty helped him to improve.

Rathanan has gone from strength to strength over the last 18 months, chalking up wins in competitions across the country from Plymouth to Derby, Ipswich, Cornwall and Kent in both singles and doubles tournaments.

In June this year he was named Club Champion at his home club. He has his sights set on even greater things and told his class mates that his ambition is to become a special Olympics champion.

Well done Rathanan, good luck in achieving your goal and we look forward to cheering you along the way!
