Architecture Workshop with Kingston University
As part of our ongoing relationship with the Stanley Picker Gallery at Kingston University we were delighted to welcome students from the architecture department to deliver a workshop. The students are currently working on installing a temporary structure inspired by shrines from across Asia, this topic was very timely as our Primary pupils have been studying Asia this term.
Working together we completed a simple paper folding activity which will then be showcased on the shrine as part of the live build installation at the Stanley Picker Gallery. Pupils were encouraged to personalise their paper by drawing, painting, or writing on them, allowing them to make each piece uniquely their own. These were then strung together to form a beautiful garland that will be hung up on the shrine. The culture of creating garlands holds significant cultural and spiritual value in countries like India, Vietnam and Thailand, where they are often used in celebrations, rituals, and as symbols of respect and hospitality.
